San Diego Country Estates
A tale is told that in the year 1540, as the Spanish conquistador Francisco Coronado led his armies over a ridge in southern Colorado, he saw before him a vast verdant valley enclosed by a majestic, snow-capped mountain range that stretched as far as the eye could see. After catching his breath he blurted, "sangre de christo," or "blood of Christ," an epithet not unlike some used today, if not in mixed company. It remains today as the name of the mountain range. The tale may be apocryphal, or not, but it was no doubt matched when the men seeking to develop a new community south and east of Ramona, California overlooked the rich green rolling hills stretching before them to the peaks of the Cuyamaca range running ahead to the south. While it is nowhere recorded, we can imagine at least one among the group exclaiming, "behold, the country estates!" For, indeed, it was the beginning of what would become over the course of the next thirty years, the San Diego Country Estates.
Today the San Diego Country Estates Association, or SDCEA, is a vibrant family oriented community of over three thousand home owners featuring a wide range of opportunities, activities and recreational pursuits to satisfy most all needs and interests while building new friendships. The eighteen hole golf course is among the best in San Diego county including a pro-shop with golf professionals on staff to help you learn the game, fix your swing and conquer those bogies. There is an active equestrian community with facilities for training, sheltering and showing your ponies, as well as many dedicated horse trails for exercise and camaraderie. We offer an ideal location, a short drive through the hills above both Barona Casino and the world renowned San Diego Wild Animal and Safari Park. The Association's resort also features two heated swimming pools, one with a small pool for the youngsters just getting their feet wet, and a Jacuzzi pool for those of us with tender muscles, both pools are fully staffed with life guards and training staff for all ages and abilities. Our AAA 3 Diamond-rated Hotel accommodations are the very best of Ramona hotels, consisting of 28 newly remodeled guest rooms featuring two queen-size or one king-size pillow top bed. All offer a spacious patio or balcony providing breath taking views of our Ted Robinson championship golf course and surrounding mountains, what a great place for your visiting friends and relatives. Tennis Anyone? We are also a part of tennis history being the resort where the 1973 Battle of the Sexes was held when Bobby Riggs and Margaret Court played for the best of three sets. For a beautiful Saturday or Sunday afternoon, we also have picnic grounds, two dog parks, countless hiking trails and who knows what's next?
Last, but certainly not least, those who live in the Estates may avail themselves of a full service clubhouse featuring a restaurant, lounge with outdoor deck seating, meeting rooms and adjacent quarters for visiting family or guests. And let's not forget, over the years, residents have developed a number of social clubs that help enhance the sense of community within the Estates for women, men and families. We are greatful to have had the opporunity to host many weddings and celebrations and offer many great venues. Ramona Valley also has a rich history of vineyards and wine making, dating back to the early missions. Hot days and cools nights with a coastal marine layer makes for healthy happy grapes - providing the Ramona area with numerous wineries in which to taste their wares.
It may be safely said that the San Diego Country Estates Association is dedicated to helping Association members realize and sustain a prosperous, well rounded style of living, a great place to raise a family, make friends, and enjoy life. We hope you'll pay us a visit soon...and stay a while!
