Pickleball

Pickleball is a racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis.  According to the USA Pickleball Association (USAPA), pickleball was created with one thing in mind: fun. It was designed to be easy to learn and play, whether you’re 5, 85, or somewhere in between, and it is one of the fastest-growing sports in America.

The rules are simple, and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but it can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players. It’s played on a badminton-sized court, with a slightly modified tennis net. Singles and doubles play the game with a paddle and a plastic ball with holes, similar to a Wiffle ball.

If you are not familiar with the sport, read the pickleball rules and a description of the pickleball court, and visit usapa.org.

Pickleball is open to lodge guests and SDCEA homeowners and their guests. Eight courts are available at Courts 3 and 4. We are open 7 am - 9 pm.

Reservations for the courts can be made by contacting Member-Guest Services. Please bring your own equipment, and lodge guests can request paddles and balls to use, free of charge. All a player has to do is roll the nets located on the side of the court into the pickleball court, which is designed with blue lines painted on either side of the tennis court. Games are open to single or doubles matches, so two or four players can enjoy the game, and lighted courts allow for playing in the evenings.
