San Vicente Park: Turf Reduction to Tranquility

For the past several months, workers have been diligently transforming the area around the pickleball and tennis courts into the new San Vicente Park. Significant improvements have been made, including the replacement of decades-old, dying shrubs with vibrant new ones. The rock wall between courts 3 and 4 has been cleared, cleaned, and grouted to prevent further damage and flooding caused by squirrel activity.

Additionally, a new pathway has been opened west of Court 4, where none existed before. A rock wall was installed to facilitate passage from the west side, and a bicycle rack has been added for those who bike to the courts.

For the remainder of this month and the next, workers will be completing the park area located west of Pickleball Court 4. This area will feature many shaded spots under trees, pathways winding through native plants with educational labels, and seating and tables made of natural materials for everyone's enjoyment.

We appreciate your patience during temporary closures and thank you for heeding posted signs and exercising caution around the construction zones.

Funding the Turf Reduction Project

The turf reduction project, which has been in the works for several months, is outlined in the San Vicente Park Landscape Plan above. In collaboration with O’Connell Landscape and SoCal WaterSmart, we designed a 50,000-square-foot outdoor space featuring drought-tolerant landscaping. The estimated cost of $150,000 for this project is fully eligible for reimbursement through the SoCal WaterSmart Program and we have received a written commitment to that end. This initiative promises to significantly enhance the designated area, providing residents with an improved gathering and walking environment.
