Ben McBride Returns as San Vicente Resort Golf Course Superintendent

San Vicente Resort warmly welcomes back Golf Course Superintendent Ben McBride, who brings expertise and dedication to the course he values so deeply.

San Vicente Resort is excited to welcome back Ben McBride as its Golf Course Superintendent. Ben initially joined the resort in December 2020, drawn by the beauty of the area and the challenge of managing the newly renovated golf course, which reopened in Spring 2021. The award-winning renovation project held a special connection to his roots, as Golf Course Architect Andy Staples drew inspiration from courses in Adelaide, Australia, where Ben grew up, and it reminded him of Glenelg Golf Club, the golf course back home that he is a member of.

In June 2023, Ben accepted a position leading the landscape construction department at Prestigious Turf, a Southern California-based company, allowing him greater flexibility to spend time with his young family. Despite the change, Ben remained connected to and missed the unique experience of working on a golf course. In an extraordinary twist, when Prestigious Turf was hired to work on the San Vicente golf course, Ben was assigned to oversee the project. This experience rekindled his passion for the course and inspired his return to San Vicente Resort.

Now, with his youngest child starting preschool, Ben is ready to fully dedicate his time and expertise to the course and its community. He is eager to address challenges such as changes to the reclaimed water supply and Bermudagrass encroachment on Bentgrass collars and greens. Ben sees these as opportunities to innovate and maintain the high standards for which San Vicente Resort is known.

With a deep family legacy in golf course management—his father served as a Golf Course Superintendent for 25 years, and Ben started accompanying him to work as a young child—Ben brings a wealth of experience and a lifelong connection to the profession. The resort is thrilled about the positive impact Ben will have, ensuring an exceptional experience for all its guests.
