BowWow PowWow Brings Ramona’s Dog-Loving Community Together

The Ramona community came together Saturday, September 12, for the BowWow PowWow 18^th Dog Show, a fun-filled celebration of dogs, their owners and the special companionship they bring to our lives.

Held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ramona Fairgrounds, the event was presented by the Kiwanis Club of Ramona as a celebration of community companionship.

The BowWow PowWow offered plenty for attendees and their four-legged friends to enjoy, including vendor booths, food and refreshments, raffles and a silent auction featuring a variety of baskets and prizes. Ribbons were also awarded to dogs competing in a variety of entertaining categories.

The event featured a special San Diego County Sheriff’s Department K-9 presentation, giving attendees an opportunity to see working dogs in action and learn more about their important role in the community.

A panel of local judges helped determine the winners. Judges included Tim Connelly, a photographer known for capturing the people, places and events of Ramona; Shannon Smith, a Ramona native who has worked as a veterinary technician for 16 years; and Vinnie Ciampoli, president of the Ramona Chamber of Commerce and owner of Ciampoli Construction.

The competition featured categories for dogs of all kinds and personalities. Classes included Best in Costume – Adult’s Dog, Best Costume – Teen’s Dog, Best Costume – Child’s Dog, Most Beautiful Female Dog, Most Handsome Male Dog, Dog and Owner Look Alike, Most Talented, Best Tail Wagger, Cutest Little Dog and Best in Show.

With creative costumes, wagging tails and plenty of canine personality, the BowWow PowWow gave Ramona residents another opportunity to gather, have fun and celebrate the animals that are such an important part of so many local families.



The Kiwanis Club of Ramona’s event was a reminder that sometimes the best community celebrations are the ones that bring neighbors and their dogs together.
