Community Notice – Creelman Fire: Rainy Season Mitigation Efforts Underway
The Association, County and homeowners are coordinating efforts to prepare for the rainy season and address potential erosion and runoff following the Creelman Fire.
Following the Creelman Fire on July 22, 2026, the Association has been working with the County of San Diego and other agencies to evaluate potential erosion and stormwater runoff concerns in and around the fire-affected area.
With the rainy season approaching, planning is focused on a coordinated three-part approach involving County-owned property, HOA Open Space, and individual homeowner properties.
County-Owned Property
The County of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department has evaluated fire-affected land uphill from the neighborhood to determine appropriate erosion-control measures. Based on its assessment, the County is planning mitigation work on County-owned property, with work currently anticipated to begin within the next few weeks.
HOA Open Space
The Association's Open Space and trail area is located between portions of the County-owned land and nearby residential properties. The HOA has been advised to allow the County to complete its initial work before proceeding with measures on Association property.
Once the County's work is completed, the HOA will evaluate conditions and implement appropriate erosion and runoff mitigation measures within the Association's area of responsibility.
Homeowner Preparedness
Homeowners throughout the community are encouraged to consider their own rainy-season preparedness and evaluate drainage conditions around their homes. Reasonable preventive measures can help direct rainwater away from homes and other structures.
During site visits in the area near the Creelman Fire, it was observed that a number of homeowners have already installed drainage systems designed to accommodate the natural flow of rainwater. Homeowners with questions or concerns about drainage on their individual property may wish to consult an appropriate drainage or erosion-control professional before making changes.
Continuing Coordination and Updates
The Association will continue coordinating with the County and appropriate agencies as mitigation efforts move forward. Because conditions and recommendations may change as work progresses, the scope and timing of planned measures may also be adjusted.
Updates will be provided to the community as additional information becomes available, and project timelines are confirmed.
The cooperation of the County, Association, and homeowners is an important part of preparing for the rainy season and helping reduce potential erosion and runoff concerns following the Creelman Fire.
