East Coast Charm: October Home of the Month

Tiffany Pressler • October 10, 2024

David and Gerry Ann Lloyd were in search of a horse property when they moved to Ramona from Los Angeles 11 years ago. They found that and much more in their SDCE home and October’s Home of the Month.

David and Gerry Ann Lloyd have been married for 48 years and have lived in their home in SDCE for 11 years. The 3,000-square-foot house sits on 1.25 acres and was designed by an architect from New England. Her east coast inspiration is evident in the design, from the huge wraparound porch to the uniform windows and shutters. “It’s a spectacular house,” says David.

When the couple was hunting for a new home, David searched the area on Google Maps and discovered the perfect home in a cul-de-sac on Poco Way. He found it conveniently close to the International Equestrian Center. They bought the house specifically for the property; it has a large, flat backyard perfect for their two horses, an Andalusian and a Hanoverian. They have two beautiful pastures and an enclosure in their backyard with enough room to exercise their horses. Being so close to the IEC is a plus because there are so many amenities there that David says he can’t duplicate in his backyard.

The Lloyds have made many upgrades over the years. They installed a new roof, well pump, air conditioning, and furnace. David says they were one of the first homes in the area to install solar. Gerry Ann adds that they made upgrades in every room and redid the kitchen. They replaced windows and made basic changes for deferred maintenance. They put in a patio and built a hay and tack shed in the backyard.

Gerry Ann says the bones of the house were good, and the colors of the interior were quite lovely—neutral and light. “It was a brilliant choice,” said Gerry Ann. “You can decorate with anything.”

David says they are thankful to be here. It’s a friendly place to live, and they love the people. He adds that golf and horses are popular in this area. The trails around their house are full on the weekends. “We are all about horses,” says David. “We have our stamp on it.”

Congratulations, David and Gerry Ann, on being awarded Home of the Month for October!
