Join Us for an Exciting Pickleball Tournament

Tiffany Pressler • September 25, 2024

Pickleball players, get your paddles ready and join us for a tournament at the San Vicente Resort on Saturday, October 26.

Nim Miranda, Executive Assistant at the San Diego Country Estates Association, has been playing pickleball since 2021 and practices on the court at the San Vicente Resort. She says that pickleball is good for your health and good for people socially. She knows a lot of people and homeowners who play and has made a lot of friends playing the sport.

Most commonly, people play doubles, consisting of two players on a team working together to cover the court, strategize, and score points. The goal is to score points by hitting the ball over the net into the opponent’s court. Points are won when the opposing team fails to return the ball correctly. The game lasts approximately 15 minutes, depending on how long the rallies last.

The tournament will have men’s, women’s, and mixed divisions for all skill levels. On the day of the event, check-in for the women’s division begins at 7:30 am, and they play at 8 am. The mixed division’s check-in begins at 10:30 am, and they play at 11 am. The men’s division check-in begins at 2 pm, and they play at 2:30 pm. The tournament will include a round-robin event with playoffs. All teams will play in their skill-level group. Balls are provided by Gear Box, the tournament ball sponsor, but players need to bring their own paddles.

The registration fee for members is $35 for their first game and $20 for their second game. Non-members will be charged $45 for their first game and $20 for their second game. The registration deadline is October 21.

“People usually sign up as a double,” says Miranda. “People like to play with a player they have been practicing with and know how their partner plays.” If single players are looking for a team, you can contact Miranda at her desk at 760-789-3788, 5000 or email her at Nim.Miranda@sdcea.net, and she will do her best to match players up with partners.

Gather your friends and be part of the pickleball action!
