Landscape Team Continues Year-Round Fuel Management and Open Space Improvements
The Landscape/Open Space Department continues to make steady progress on its year-round fire-fuel management program, clearing vegetation, widening trails, and removing hazardous trees to keep our open spaces safe, healthy, and enjoyable.
The team is routinely cutting down and removing excess vegetation to reduce fire risk and maintain the health of our open spaces.
In addition to clearing downed trees left behind after the 2003 Cedar Fire, crews are now focused on removing long-standing deadfall throughout key trail areas. Work last month centered on the Stone Mountain East trail, where crews cleared the trail, removed standing dead trees, and hauled away nearly all debris. The trail is now wider, easier to navigate, and offers clear views of the meandering creek, a truly beautiful area.
The team also removed several dead oaks near San Vicente Road and Barona Mesa Road. To complete this safely, they constructed a new access road, allowing tractors to reach the area and clear poison oak and forest-floor debris. This enabled tree-service teams to remove large trees and haul away the remaining material.
Your Landscape Department remains committed to maintaining and improving our Open Space and Trail systems. We hope you take time to enjoy the natural beauty of our valley.
