Check out local murals in various locations around Ramona that add beauty to public and private spaces. Murals bring people together to celebrate the heritage and history of the community and can transform plain buildings or walls into beautiful works of art.

San Diego Country Estates resident and artist Johnathan Martinez has painted two of the Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Murals. His first is called “La Quinceanera” and is located on the side of Leslie’s Pool Supplies at 1905 Main Street. The mural represents the celebration of a Catholic girl’s 15th birthday. Martinez shows through his art the ideals of family, love, friendship, and the joy of living life. These subjects are painted without faces so viewers can focus on the essence of the subject without being distracted by their physical appearance.

“The Garden” is Martinez’ second mural for the H.E.A.R.T. project. The multi-dimensional image is located in a small but highly visible area in the center of town at Main Street Coffee at 680 Main Street. The joyfully vibrant mural consists of two adjacent panels featuring two garden visitors.

Martinez has been involved in the community for many years and has completed pieces used by multiple Ramona businesses. He helped raise funds for the H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project by painting wine barrels for the Ramona Art and Wine Festival. In addition, he painted two utility boxes located outside the Women’s Club at 524 Main Street. The Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project’s mission is to encourage economic vitality by increasing tourism, promoting community pride, and celebrating the rich cultural heritage through an outstanding outdoor visual arts program. Murals help create a sense of community and inspire creativity and wonder. They make cities and towns more vibrant and meaningful places to live.
