A New Era of Fun and Facts: Meet the New Quizmaster at Trivia Night

San Vicente Resort's popular Trivia Night is getting a fun new twist this summer, as quizmaster JC “Chico” Flores steps in to challenge players’ wits with clever questions and high-energy hosting.

Longtime quizmaster and current 2025 Vice President of the SDCEA Board of Directors, Jodie Taylor, is passing the trivia mic after nearly three years of entertaining the crowd with clever questions and signature humor.

Since November 2022, Taylor has brought a lively energy and sense of fun to the event. Reflecting on the transition, Taylor shared, “The good news is that I’ll get to enjoy trivia nights as a participant, as my good friend Chico Flores will be taking over as the new quizmaster — and he plans to bring even more fun and fiesta!”

JC "Chico" Flores is taking the reins starting in August. His first two trivia nights at The Oaks Grille will be held on August 5 and September 9, from 5 to 8 pm, and will then take place on the first Tuesday of each month thereafter.

To keep trivia nights fresh and festive, each month’s event will feature a unique theme that ties into the trivia, décor, and maybe even the dress code! Flores’ first theme on August 5 is “Hawaiian Endless Summer.” Come out to support the new quizmaster and break out your aloha shirts and beach vibes for a tropical twist on trivia night, featuring themed questions, island-style music, a tropical drink special, and a relaxed atmosphere.

Each Trivia Night features a variety of engaging categories designed to challenge your mind and bring people together through fun, friendly competition. Here’s what to expect:

  • Sports (San Diego History) – Dive into local legends, championship teams, and unforgettable moments from San Diego’s rich athletic past.
  • TV & Film – From classic sitcoms to cult-favorite films and streaming hits, this category spans decades of pop culture on screen.
  • Music (Battle of the Bands) – Test your knowledge of music through themed showdowns, iconic lyrics, band trivia, and legendary performances.
  • G&G: Geography & Geometry – Explore the world’s landscapes, natural wonders, and fascinating earth science facts.
  • Food & Drink – From global cuisine to local brews, this delicious category covers culinary traditions, ingredients, and foodie facts.
  • Picture Round – A visual challenge! Identify people, places, logos, or objects based on images—perfect for the keen-eyed players.

“I was born and raised in San Diego, a city I am proud to call home,” says Flores. Over the past 14 years, he has dedicated his career to helping Medicare patients receive the Home Health and Hospice care they need, work that has been both humbling and rewarding. “My life is grounded in service, guided by family, and enriched by community. That’s what I’m most proud of,” says Flores.

He is married to Janet Flores, his best friend and partner in everything, including golf. They are raising three amazing kids: Juliana (15), Jackson (13), and Jade (9). “Family is the heart of everything I do,” says Flores.

Golf has become more than a hobby for them — it’s a passion. He and Janet recently won the San Vicente Couples Club Championship, a moment that reflects teamwork not just on the course, but in life.

They love being part of our local community, especially events like trivia nights and concerts in the park. They’re simple pleasures, but they bring people together in the best way—through connection, laughter, and a shared love for the community.

As Taylor passes the trivia torch, her contributions as both quizmaster and community leader are deeply appreciated. Her quick wit and welcoming style have made Tuesday nights at The Oaks Grille a tradition many look forward to. With a new quizmaster on the horizon, trivia night continues and will be fun, friendly competition for all, with a few head-scratchers to keep everyone on their toes. Whether you're a longtime trivia buff or just in it for laughs, there’s always room at the table.
