The final putts have dropped, and the golf course was filled with high-fives, proud parents, and plenty of young talent as the PGA Junior League wrapped up its season. Players celebrated their hard work, improvement, and love of the game in a fun and memorable closing event.

According to Matt Brumbaugh, Head Golf Professional at San Vicente Resort, the PGA Junior League went great this season. There were 36 participants, boys and girls ages 6-13. Brumbaugh says the juniors have all gained confidence and experience on the golf course. There is no substitution for on-course playing experience. Getting it at a young age is crucial for developing skills and technique.

"These kids are fearless; they are not afraid of any shot," says Brumbaugh. He adds that golf is a life sport that they will be able to play with friends and family.

Proud dad, SDCE resident Steve Lerma, was at the game cheering on his 10-year-old son Jameson. Jameson's favorite hole was hole two because he almost got a hole-in-one on it during the last match. He has been playing golf for two years, and this year, his chipping has shown improvement. He got to play up with the older kids, about which he was excited.

"Golfing is really fun," says Natalia Mendoza, 11, who has been golfing for a year. She has played a few matches this year, and her favorite part about playing at the San Vicente Resort is getting out and discovering the course. She has learned patience and not to swing too fast. She says it's about having fun and taking your time. She added that she has always wanted to golf because she has a dream to be a golfer and wants to try new things. When she grows up, she wants to golf professionally and play against others.

Another enthusiastic golfer, Ruben Franco, 14, is an SDCE resident. According to his mom, Veronica Franco, he golfs at the San Vicente Resort six days a week. She says a group of teenage boys meets up at the San Vicente Resort and golf all afternoon; they are a really good group of responsible kids. Ruben says this season, he learned more about the rules of golf. He also became more competitive and learned that golf isn't just about hitting the ball. He says it's really rewarding, and the good shots feel better. He has acquired skills to apply in various scenarios throughout the course.

At the end of the final match, players and families parked their golf carts and came together to enjoy hot dogs, chips, and drinks as they celebrated the close of the season.

What's next for junior golf? According to Brumbaugh, the Junior Clinics will resume on Wednesdays at 4 pm and Saturdays at 10 am. The clinics will continue to focus on fundaments and the enjoyment of golf.

The San Vicente Resort wrapped up a season filled with learning, growth, and unforgettable memories. With heads held high, these young athletes proved that the future of golf is bright. Each player left the course with something invaluable—confidence, sportsmanship, and a deeper love for the game.
