February Home of the Month: Where Hollywood History Meets Modern Elegance
February’s Home of the Month beautifully blends a unique Hollywood legacy with thoughtful
modern renovations, sophisticated design, and fire-conscious landscaping that exemplifies pride
of ownership in the San Diego Country Estates.
Affectionately known by many as “The American Pie House,” this property carries a unique pedigree. It was originally built by the family of actor Seann William Scott, widely recognized for his role as Stifler in the film American Pie. Now in the hands of its third owners, the home has been thoughtfully reimagined while honoring its distinctive roots.
Rather than simply remodel, the current homeowners embraced a full transformation elevating the property into a sophisticated and timeless retreat while preserving the character that makes it special. Since taking ownership, the homeowners have meticulously updated the interior to reflect a cleaner, more cohesive aesthetic.
One of the most impactful changes was the removal of the original Saltillo tile throughout the home. In its place, elegant wood-plank porcelain tile now flows seamlessly from room to room, adding warmth, durability, and a sense of visual continuity that enhances the expansive layout.
To create a dramatic architectural statement, the homeowners collaborated with renowned local architect Carole Wylie. Wylie designed a striking “pop-out” feature that now serves as the architectural focal point of the main living area, adding dimension, light, and a contemporary edge to the space.
Bringing the vision together required a keen design eye. With guidance from Darcey Kempton, owner of Simply Stunning Spaces, the home’s layout was refined and paired with a sophisticated color palette that feels fresh yet inviting. The result is a harmonious balance of modern simplicity and comfortable living — ideal for both entertaining and everyday life in the Estates.
Most recently, attention turned to the exterior landscape. In alignment with California’s updated fire safety requirements, several palm trees were removed to enhance defensible space around the property. This proactive improvement not only supports wildfire safety compliance but also gives the grounds a sleeker, more intentional aesthetic that complements the home’s modern transformation.
It is a beautiful example of how a home can evolve respecting its history while embracing thoughtful, forward-looking design. From its Hollywood backstory to its architectural enhancements and fire-conscious landscaping, this residence reflects pride of ownership and a deep appreciation for quality improvements.
