Unique ideas for Spring Break in SDCE and beyond.

The flowers are blooming, Spring Break is approaching, and kids can’t wait to have some fun. SDCEA Recreation Secretary Joanne Rivera has just the thing to make the most of your kids’ time off. “We have our Spring Break camp that starts on March 29 and goes through April 5.” Children ages 5-12 are welcome, and camp hours run from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, with extended care in the morning from 7 – 8:15 and in the evening from 4:45 – 6. “There will be crafts and indoor and outdoor activities for all the kids.” If you would like to reserve a spot, call 760-789-4146.

Vacation Bible School is also happening at various locations in Ramona. Mountain Valley Community Church is one where many in our community volunteer during Spring Break week. Their “TRUErassic Park” camp is April 1 – 5 from 9 am – 12 pm. For more information, visit their website or call 760-789-0866.

If you’ll be at home with your family and are looking for some unique ideas on how to spend the week, there are many activities and traditions you can partake in.

The return of spring means warmer temperatures. Taking the family for a swim in the heated pool at the Clubhouse might be a refreshing start to the season. If you and your family aren’t ready to brave the water just yet, Ramona Oaks Park offers a great place to have a Spring picnic and let everyone get some sunshine. Play frisbee on the large grass area, join in on a game of basketball on the fenced-in court or grab a seat under a shady tree to read a book. Ramona Oaks Park is full of amenities for our members.

With spring offering a fresh start, you and your children can participate in many different gardening activities. From making watering cans out of recycled soda cans and planting seeds in biodegradable toilet paper rolls to designing a leprechaun or unicorn-themed fairy garden, this is the perfect time to let their imaginations (and yours) run wild. If you’d rather stay indoors, there is no shortage of craft ideas for Spring. Consider painting rocks or making bird feeders to hang in the backyard.

Spring cleaning might not sound fun at first, but it’s a great way to get the kids involved with chores. There are several age-appropriate spring-cleaning tasks you can give kids to do, many of which involve being outside. Let them pull weeds, water the plants, or mow the lawn. And if you want some help inside, have them organize their toys, alphabetizing a bookshelf, or dusting easy-to-reach furniture.

Children thrive off the environment and mood around them, so chances are, if you make something exciting to them, it will be! Happy Spring!
