Golf, Gratitude, and Good Cheer at the SVWGA Ace of Aces Celebration
The San Vicente Room was filled with smiles, laughter, and plenty of cheer as the San Vicente Women’s Golf Club gathered for its Ace of Aces luncheon honoring the players who achieved the top shots of the season.
The SVWGA general meeting and holiday luncheon was a combination of holiday merriment and honoring players. On the morning of the luncheon, the ladies golfed and then enjoyed appetizers. The buffet started at 1 pm, and the meeting began at 1:15 pm. They had donation baskets for In His Steps and Ramona Senior Center. There was also a white elephant gift exchange.
29 ladies attended the Ace of Aces Luncheon, seven of whom are past presidents. Some are still in Ramona, and some live farther away but close enough to attend the event. 11 of the 12 winners were present, each wearing a sash from the month she won.
The SVWGA 2025 winners (or aces) for each month included Angela Cowardin in January, Cathy Knowles in February, Joyce Whiteheard in March, Lynda D’Amato in April, Maureen Greenwood in May, Kathleen Kankelberg in June, Robyn Bolitho in July, Janet Flores in August, Toni Massery in September, Corinne Hill in October, Antoinette Rodriguez in November, and Elaine Jeremy in December.
The SVWGA holds general meetings on the second Tuesday of each month. There are 35 ladies in the club, ranging in age from 37 to 87. Of the 35 ladies, six work full-time, one goes to school, and 28 are retired. Some of the ladies in the group have been golfing for two years, and others for over 70 years.
The title of most improved golfer of the year was awarded to Tracy Powell, who dropped her handicap by 12 strokes.
Miss July, Robyn Bolitho, has been golfing for 15 years and played in the Ace of Aces tournament. She said all the winners for each player played together on December 4 to determine who was the ace of aces. The winner with the lowest net score of aces was Corinne Hill, President of the San Vicente Golf Board.
2025 SVWGA President, Darla White, has been elected to serve again as the lead in 2026. She learned how to play golf 30 years ago and has been playing actively for three years. She was proud to announce that the players had a combined total of four holes-in-one this year. She also thanked the past presidents for their time and dedication to the club. This is normally done at their October meeting, but this year they combined it with the holiday luncheon.
As golfers left with full hearts of holiday cheer, one thing was clear. This festive tradition continues to be a favorite, reminding everyone why the women’s golf community is so special.
