Heart Month Emphasizes the Importance of CPR Training

Amy Holsapple, Recreation Manager • February 19, 2026

During February Heart Month, CPR training and readily available AED machines help strengthen safety and preparedness across the SDCEA community.

Happy Heart Month. With February recognized as Heart Month, we want to highlight why learning CPR is so important. Here in the Association, we now have six AED machines located throughout the community. They can be found at the Member Guest Desk, Pro Shop, Equestrian Office, Golf Maintenance Office, Community Relations Office, and the Recreation Center. Having these lifesaving devices in place makes our community safer and better prepared for emergencies.

Every second counts when responding to a cardiac emergency. With AED machines nearby and employees trained in CPR, we significantly improve the chances of survival. CPR helps protect against brain damage by maintaining blood circulation until professional help arrives. Acting quickly and using an AED can give a victim a higher chance of recovery with fewer long-term effects.

I have been teaching CPR for the Association for more than 20 years. It began when we were sending employees off site for certification, and I realized I could bring this important training in house. Growing up with a firefighter father, I developed a strong passion for lifesaving skills. My goal in teaching CPR is to empower employees with the confidence to act within their training during emergencies and to help create a safer community for everyone.

Starting this year, we plan to open select CPR classes to homeowners. If you are interested in learning this valuable lifesaving skill, please look for upcoming class information or call the Recreation Office at 760-789-4146 to be added to the interest list and be among the first notified when dates are announced.
