Horsefeathers December 2024

Lisa Everett, Equestrian Manager • January 2, 2025

December brought rainy season preparations, roof repairs, safety upgrades, and facility improvements at Casey Tibbs Western Center and the International Equestrian Center.

This month has been incredibly busy for our equestrian team as we prepare for the rainy season and ongoing facility improvements. While short one maintenance staff member, the team has worked tirelessly to ensure everything is ready. Rain preparation at both facilities has included placing waddles and sandbags, and the mare motel at IEC has been graded for better drainage.

Significant projects are also underway: the bridge at IEC leading to the mare motel and compost area has been widened and inspected by the county, and the manure box and stairs will be reinstalled in January.

Roof repairs across eight barns and the landscape/maintenance shop at IEC began on December 26 and are expected to last through mid-February. While this work is being done, empty stalls at both Casey Tibbs and IEC have been prepared for temporary horse relocations. We appreciate everyone’s patience during this process.

Stop signs have been installed between barns C and D at IEC for increased vehicle safety, with more planned at the corrals. Dressage courts at IEC have been temporarily taken down for footing improvement, while the board has approved up to $15,000 in decomposed granite (DG) for boarders to use during the rainy season. Additionally, a new well tank and wood jumps for IEC have been approved.

Thank you for your understanding and support as we work hard to maintain and improve our equestrian facilities.
