Ladies Nine & Wine Welcomes Golfers of Every Skill Level

Whether you're a seasoned golfer or picking up a club for the first time, Ladies Nine & Wine offers the perfect blend of golf, friendship, and fun every Monday at San Vicente Golf Course.

Every Monday afternoon, a group of women gather at the San Vicente Golf Course for much more than a round of golf. The Ladies Nine & Wine program has become one of the most popular weekly activities at San Diego Country Estates, bringing together women of all ages and abilities for exercise, friendship, and fun.

The format is simple: nine holes of golf followed by refreshments and conversation in the Par Lounge. Yet for many participants, the experience has led to much more. Some have joined the San Vicente Golf Club, others have become regular members of the Ladies Play Group, and many have formed friendships that extend well beyond the golf course.

“It’s great to get out,” says Tamra Kelly, the volunteer coordinator of Nine & Wine and secretary of the Golf Board. “I love being outside and active with ladies who like to do that too.”

The event takes place every Monday throughout the year. During the summer months, play begins at 4 p.m., with groups of four golfers teeing off every 10 minutes. As fall approaches and daylight hours shorten, the start time moves to 2 p.m. Typically, between 14 and 16 women participate each week.

At $30 per player, the outing includes golf and time to relax afterward with refreshments. While wine is available, participants can choose from a variety of beverages. The name Nine & Wine simply reflects the social nature of the gathering and the nine-hole format.

One of the biggest draws is the supportive environment. Kelly began golfing only two years ago and remembers feeling uncertain as a beginner. The encouragement she received inspired her to help create the same experience for others.

“What makes Nine & Wine different is the camaraderie,” Kelly says. “It’s a great opportunity to golf with other women and support each other.”

The program is designed to be welcoming for everyone. No golf experience is necessary, and players do not need to sign up with a foursome. Individuals are paired with other golfers, making it easy for newcomers to join. Kelly often plays with first-time participants to help them feel comfortable and connected.

The beautiful San Vicente Golf Course also adds to the experience. Golfers regularly enjoy scenic views and encounters with local wildlife, including ducks, rabbits, and coyotes.

For women looking to learn the game, improve their skills, or simply enjoy an afternoon outdoors with friends, Ladies Nine & Wine offers a relaxed and inviting way to get involved.
