Fierce Fun and Fairways: The Red vs. Blue Showdown Returns!
The San Vicente Women’s Golf Club teed up for two days of spirited match play, poolside celebrations, and memorable moments—like a surprise birdie on Hole 12 by Amy Sailor!
The 2025 annual Red vs. Blue Tournament, hosted by the San Vicente Women’s Golf Club, is a spirited two-day event that took place on Thursday, July 19, and Tuesday, July 22. Open to all members of the Ladies Club, it’s a fun and friendly way to experience match play in a relaxed and supportive setting.
This year, 20 women participated, and the competition was lively! Leading the charge were team captains: Toni Massery led Team Red, featuring Corinne Hill, Robyn Bolitho, Angie Rios, Annette Schwipper, Kathleen Kankelberg, Lynda Damato, Suzanne Shupe, Marcy Aubert, and Penny Fowler. Janet Flores captained Team Blue, joined by Joyce Whitehead, Angela Cowardin, Cathy Knowles, Sharron Daniels, Tracy Powell, Sue Kane, Kris Jolly, Amy Sailors, and Nancy Berger.
The match play format meant players competed hole by hole, with points awarded to the winner of each hole, rather than by total strokes for the entire round. This was a fantastic opportunity for both seasoned golfers and those new to this style of play to sharpen their skills in a competitive yet friendly environment.
After two days on the course, players celebrated with a poolside lunch at the beautiful home of Joyce Whitehead, who graciously opened her doors for this special gathering. A delicious catered lunch was served, and prizes were awarded to each member of the winning team, along with awards for a few exciting side contests, including longest putt and closest to the pin.
Team Red, last year’s champions, returned with a mix of veterans and first-time players—and once again proved they’re a force to be reckoned with.
One of the unexpected highlights came when, after being hit in the head with a golf ball the previous week, Amy Sailors received a hard hat as a playful gift from a teammate. Now back on the course and making a strong comeback, the youngest player, Amy Sailor, in the tournament sank a birdie on Hole 12!
Congratulations to Team Red, the 2025 Champions!
Each winning player earned bragging rights and a $10 prize, but more importantly, they left with great memories and new friendships forged on the fairways.
