Superintendent’s Revenge Brings Tricky Challenges and Plenty of Fun to San Vicente Resort
The tournament challenged golfers with tricky pin placements and creative tee locations, rewarding teamwork and strategy while delivering a fun day of competition, prizes, and camaraderie.
San Vicente Resort’s Superintendent’s Revenge tournament on Friday, October 23, gave golfers a challenging twist on the traditional scramble. Difficult pin placements, creative tee locations, and strategic shot selection tested players’ course-management skills and teamwork.
Par-three pins were placed outside the holes, and the uphill par-five fourth hole featured the same demanding setup. Tee boxes were moved to the back of the boxes, onto uphill slopes, and into the trees. Ben McBride, San Vicente’s Golf Course Superintendent, spent several days planning the pin placements, while the tee boxes were adjusted early on tournament morning.
The scramble format rewarded communication and careful planning, including decisions about where to leave shots on the green and how to position teammates for the next play.
The Anderson group won first place gross, the Rajcic group took first place net, and the Roland group finished second.
Participants received a sleeve of golf balls and a hat, enjoyed hot dogs at the turn, and entered a raffle for brand-new wedges, putters, hats, and boxes of golf balls.
After a successful event, organizers are already planning next year’s tournament and expect to make the course even more challenging. The day delivered plenty of laughs while highlighting the importance of teamwork and strategy.
