Tee Up Family Fun at the Parent-Child Scramble on August 5

Summer golf offers fun for the whole family with the return of the Parent-Child Scramble Tournament.

Parents and children are invited to hit the links together during the upcoming Parent-Child Scramble on Tuesday, August 5, at San Vicente Golf Course in San Diego Country Estates.

The nine-hole, two-person scramble is open to teams consisting of one parent and one child, ages 6 to 13. The event begins with a 5 p.m. shotgun start and costs $60 per team.

Whether you're introducing your child to the game for the very first time or already enjoy golfing together, the Parent-Child Scramble offers a fun, relaxed evening focused on family, teamwork, and making memories that can last a lifetime. The tournament is designed to bring families together in a welcoming environment where players of all abilities can enjoy the game while encouraging one another along the way.

According to Golf Shop Supervisor Sergio Saucedo, golfers have been asking for the event to return after its success two years ago.

"We didn't have the Parent-Child Scramble last year, but we held one two years ago and it went really well," Saucedo said. "A lot of people have been asking for it to come back because the last event was very successful."

Saucedo said the tournament is about much more than keeping score.

"It's special because it gives parents and kids the chance to make memories together on the golf course," he said. "Hopefully it inspires them to keep playing golf together, not just once, but again and again."

The scramble format allows players of all skill levels to enjoy the game together. Both players tee off, choose the best shot, and continue playing from that spot until the ball is holed. This format keeps the pace moving, takes the pressure off younger golfers, and emphasizes teamwork over individual scores, making it ideal for families.

Beyond the competition, the evening is an opportunity to unplug from busy schedules, spend quality one-on-one time together, and introduce children to a sport they can enjoy for a lifetime. Golf teaches patience, sportsmanship, and perseverance; valuable lessons that extend far beyond the course.

With summer winding down and a new school year just around the corner, the Parent-Child Scramble is a perfect way to wrap up the season with an evening outdoors. Whether your family is playing to win or simply enjoying time together, everyone will leave with something more valuable than a scorecard—shared memories.

Space is limited, so families are encouraged to register early. For more information or to sign up, contact the San Vicente Golf Shop and reserve your spot for an evening of family fun on the fairways.
