Tree Removal and Safety Update at Ramona Oaks Park

Nancy Zadrozny, Landscape and Open Space Manager • June 17, 2025

Four unsafe cottonwood trees were removed at Ramona Oaks Park, and replacement planting is underway to restore the area.

Recently, a large tree limb fell directly into the popular sandbox area. Fortunately, this happened overnight, and the tree was immediately trimmed of any weakened branches.

This incident prompted a thorough evaluation of all four remaining cottonwoods, and the decision was made to remove them because they were unhealthy and prone to dropping limbs.

We understand the importance of the shade these trees provided, and plans are underway to replace them with Chinese elm trees.

Fence repairs were completed first, and next, we will source and install the new trees.

Thank you for your patience as we work to keep our facilities safe and enjoyable for all.

While most commuters from Ramona head to the coast to go to the office or school, one San Diego Country Estates resident takes the drive for a unique purpose: coaching Australian Football.
