Vandalism on the Rise at Golf Course: Community Urged to Help Identify Offenders

Heather McGhee • August 9, 2024

Vandalism at the golf course has increased, and we are asking the community to report any activities to the Sheriff and SDCEA staff.

Vandalism on the golf course has increased, with e-bike and mini-bike riders damaging putting greens and fairways. Golf Course Superintendent Scott Walwyn contacted the sheriff earlier this week, providing photos and details of the damage to holes 14, 15, and 17. The Golf Course Maintenance Team promptly began repairs. We are now asking for assistance from anyone who witnesses vandalism to help prevent further damage.

To put this vandalism in perspective, the golf course green is the area where the hole is located, with finely cut grass for smooth putting. The fairway is the area between the tee box, where a golfer takes their first shot, and the green.  The damage is costly and impacts the ability of homeowners to use this amenity.

If you witness a motorized bike on the course or anyone causing damage, please call right away:

  1. Call the Front Desk at 760-789-8290 x0.
  2. Call the Sheriff’s Office Communications Center/Dispatch at 858-565-5200.

Safely record details, videos, and photos to show to the responding deputy.

We appreciate your help to stop those who are vandalizing the community’s amenities.
