A familiar face in both the classroom and the community, Barnett Elementary School teacher Mrs. Hayley Paredes has been named “Favorite Teacher” in a recent online poll of San Diego Country Estates residents.

Mrs. Hayley Paredes has been named “Favorite Teacher” in a recent online poll of San Diego Country Estates residents. Paredes, a fifth-grade teacher in her fifth year of teaching, was both surprised and grateful for the recognition. “There are so many amazing educators in our community, so to be chosen is incredibly humbling,” she said. “This reflects the support of my colleagues, the trust of families, and the hard work of my students.”

A lifelong resident of the area, Paredes attended Barnett Elementary herself, before continuing on to Olive Peirce Middle School and Ramona High School. Her deep roots in the community helped inspire her return as an educator. “I am Ramona through and through,” she said. “I love this small town and the people in it. We have such a great group of teachers here, and I wanted to be a part of that.”

Paredes teaches a combination class and has worked with students in grades four through six. She describes her approach as student-centered and relationship-driven, focusing on creating a classroom where students feel safe, seen, and connected.

“I believe students learn best when they feel valued and supported,” she said. “I try to create engaging, hands-on learning experiences that make learning meaningful and memorable.”

Her passion for teaching began early, inspired by her Nana, Jill Farmer, who nurtured her love of learning during childhood. With a whiteboard and natural enthusiasm, Paredes spent hours teaching her younger family members—an experience that shaped her future career. “What started as childhood play quickly grew into a passion,” she said. “Those moments sparked something in me that never faded.”

While her classroom work stands out, many say her impact extends well beyond school hours. One supporter said, “Mrs. Paredes is one of the most amazing teachers you’ll ever meet. She goes above and beyond for her students and the entire school, showing a level of dedication that is truly inspiring.” Another noted, “Her dedication, passion, and commitment to excellence truly set her apart. A well-deserved Teacher of the Year and an inspiration to all.”

A detailed nomination highlighted her lasting influence on students and her presence across campus:

“There is always that one teacher that sticks in your mind as you move forward in life. This is our 5th grade teacher Hayley Paredes. She goes above and beyond to help the students in her class, as well as other classes. Her energy is infectious, and the kids respond to her so well. It is an honor to submit Hayley Paredes’ name for Teacher Recognition.”

Paredes has also served as a PTA teacher liaison for the past three years, helping organize events that bring families together and create lasting memories for students. These include family bingo nights, art and nacho events, barbecues, and major school traditions such as the “Hollydays” Christmas program and the “Monster Mash” Halloween dance. “She is the heart of Barnett,” another supporter said. “Her extra efforts create lifelong memories for these students.”

Families point to her daily presence on campus from morning drop-off to afternoon dismissal as a reflection of her commitment. Others note her willingness to step in wherever needed, including supporting testing efforts at the high school. “There is always that one teacher you remember for the rest of your life,” a parent said. “For many of us, that teacher is Hayley Paredes.”

Colleagues and families describe her as compassionate, patient, and deeply invested in her students’ success. She is also known for offering support beyond the classroom to help students build both skills and confidence. “Teaching is a chosen path,” one nomination read. “It takes compassion, knowledge, and patience and she embodies all of those qualities.”

For Paredes, the most rewarding part of her work is the relationships she builds with students and families. She often hears from former students who return years later to share their accomplishments. “Those moments are a powerful reminder of why I do what I do,” she said. She hopes her influence extends beyond academics. “I want my students to feel truly known and cared for,” she added. “If they leave my class with confidence, empathy, and a love for learning, then I know I’ve made a lasting impact.”

Paredes credits her family, colleagues, and the Ramona community for shaping her journey, describing San Diego Country Estates as a place where people genuinely support one another. “We are a small town, and everyone wants the best for students,” she said.

Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Adam, whom she has known since kindergarten, along with attending Padres games, golfing, traveling, and visiting the lake with family.

As the community celebrates her recognition, many say the title of “Favorite Teacher” reflects what they have long known: Paredes is not only an exceptional educator, but a cornerstone of the Barnett Elementary community.
