Kids Say the Sweetest Things for Mother’s Day

Between games and giggles at a San Diego Country Estates rec center, kids share sweet, funny, and heartfelt reasons why their moms are everyday heroes who make life brighter in countless little ways.

At the recreation center in San Diego Country Estates, a group of children gathered around tables in between outdoor play time to share what makes their moms so special. Their answers were as heartfelt as they were honest.

Eight-year-old Rylee talks about her mother and why she is special. “I like that she is really nice and helps me with stuff that I need help with.” She says that one of the nicest things her mother has done for her is helping her with homework when she gets stuck. If she could give her mother any gift in the world, she would give her a huge bouquet of flowers. If they could do anything together for one day, Rylee would choose to have a girl’s day with her mother, complete with shopping and ice cream.

Emma, 9, says her mom is kind and helps her with her homework. If she could choose one day to do anything with her mom, she would choose to go to Universal Studios.

Dax, 8, says he loves to snuggle with his mom and watch movies with her. He also loves to play Back Alley Bridge, a family card game, with his mom.

Skylar, 6, says that sometimes her mother buys her toys and she loves her. In return, Skylar makes her mother cards to show how much she loves and appreciates the woman she calls mom.

Jenny, 8, says her mom is nice and gets her stuff when she is not awake. “She surprises me.” If she could choose a day for her and her mother to do something fun, it would be to go to Sea World.

Wyatt, 10, says his mother cooks, cleans and teaches him to cook and clean. She also teaches him how to plant. “We both have something in common,” Wyatt says about his mother. “We both love to read.” He says his mother shows him that she loves him affectionately in two ways. She is stern and protects him and she shows him love every day.

Grayson, 8, says his mother takes him to school and takes care of him. When he goes to bed his mother comes in with open arms and smiles. Grayson loves his mother and shows he loves her by drawing her pictures and giving her hugs.

The recreation center, a hub for community activities in San Diego Country Estates, provided the perfect backdrop for the conversation. As children moved between games and crafts, their words offered a glimpse into the simple but meaningful ways they see their mothers.

In the end, the children’s words serve as a simple but powerful reminder of what Mother’s Day is all about. From early mornings and packed lunches to bedtime stories and unconditional support, mothers play countless roles, often without recognition.
