Dreamcatcher Ladies Member Guest Golf Invitational: A Two-Day Celebration of Friendship, Fairways, and Fun

The 2025 San Vicente Women’s Golf Association’s Dreamcatcher Invitational brought 52 golfers together for two unforgettable days of competition, camaraderie, and community spirit at San Vicente Golf Resort.

The San Vicente Women’s Golf Association hosted another memorable Dreamcatcher Ladies Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 20 and 21. This year’s tournament drew 52 players, including guests from across San Diego County, Palm Springs, and even as far as Idaho, making it a highlight of the fall golf season.

The fun began Monday morning with registration at 10 am and a shotgun start at 11 am. Bag handlers were on hand to assist players, while the driving range opened early for warm-ups. The two-day event featured an Individual Eclectic format—combining each player’s best scores across 18 holes with their partners for an exciting, strategic game. Scores were tracked through Golf Genius, managed by the tournament’s tech expert, Sergio.

Throughout the tournament, participants enjoyed Closest to the Pin contests on hole #12, delicious meals, and the kind of hospitality that makes San Vicente Resort a favorite among visiting players. On Monday, golfers refueled mid-round with grilled hot dogs, chips, and drinks before returning for the evening’s Cross Country Derby—a four-hole surprise challenge set by the “Derby Meister.” The day wrapped up in the San Vicente Room, where players relaxed with a complimentary drink and taco bar while prizes and the day’s winners were announced.

Tuesday began bright and early with a buffet featuring quiche breakfast in the San Vicente Room at 7:30 am, followed by an 8:30 am tee time. Bag handlers once again ensured a smooth start as players hit the course for the final round. Following the play, everyone gathered for the Awards Luncheon, where Gross and Net champions were recognized, and photos captured the spirit of the event.

Congratulations to Page Megna and Kathy Williams for winning the Tournament’s Overall Net Champions.

Behind the scenes, a dedicated team made it all possible. Golf Pro Matt Brumbaugh and the Golf Shop Team kept the pace flowing; Chef Ben Peterson and his team prepared outstanding meals; and Catering Manager Joyce Whelehon handled all banquet and service details, ensuring the room was professionally set up and service was excellent. Lodge Manager Mary Ellen ensured tournament guests enjoyed a wonderful stay at the hotel, resulting in over a dozen rooms booked. Superintendent Ben McBride and his crew had the course in pristine condition, with players commenting that the greens were the best they’d ever seen.

Co-chairs Kathleen Kankelberg and Joyce Whitehead estimated the two-day tournament to generate roughly $10,000 in revenue from golf, food, lodging, and merchandise. Beyond the numbers, the event also supported local youth. The 50/50 raffle raised $1,000—$750 of which will be donated to the Ramona High School Girls Golf Team, with an additional $250 contributed by the Barona Band of Mission Indians.

“This event is special to all of us,” shared the organizers. “It’s not just about the competition—it’s about connection, giving back, and celebrating the joy of golf together.”
