Fathers Make Everyday Moments Special
San Diego Country Estates Rec Center kids share what makes their dads special.
Father’s Day is a time to celebrate the dads who show up in big and small ways, whether it’s building projects, offering encouragement, or simply spending time together. Students from the San Diego Country Estates after school recreation program shared what makes their fathers so special.
Dean, 7, says his dad teaches him how to be a police officer. “We play cops and robbers,” Dean explains. He also appreciates that his dad picks him up from school, plays with him, and teaches him how to build things.
Eight-year-old Rylee says her favorite thing about her dad is that he draws with her. She adds that he is very skilled at building and even made a birdhouse. One of her favorite things he says is, “You’ve got this! I love you.”
Wyatt, 10, describes his dad as the more flexible parent. They enjoy golfing together and recently shared a special one-on-one moment. “This past Valentine’s Day we watched a movie together,” Wyatt says. “Just us.”
Kahlo, 11, says his dad takes him shopping and to fun places like theme parks, and they often eat out together. His favorite place to go with his dad is Olive Garden.
Landon, 8, says his dad plays chess with him. “And he lets me hug him when I want to hug him.” Landon says his dad shows he loves him by hugging him really tight.
Rylee, 8, says her dad is kind and fun. “He plays with me, and we do fun things,” she says. They enjoy playing tag, and her dad taught her how to swim. Last Father’s Day, her family surprised him with a dinner celebration with friends.
Capri, 7, says her dad is playful and caring. “He tickles me, and I love how he plays with me,” she says. She adds that when she or her sister gets hurt, he is always quick to help. “He gets us ice.”
Alana, 8, says her dad is always there when she needs him. “If I’m sad, he tries to find a game or help me feel better,” she says. When she gets hurt, he brings her a bandage or ice. This Father’s Day, her family plans to spend time together.
From words of encouragement to everyday acts of care, these students show that being a great dad is all about love, time, and attention. This Father’s Day, their stories remind us that the simplest moments often mean the most.
