San Vicente Golf Resort’s Christmas Couples Tournament blended festive fun, friendly competition, and a playful Step Aside Scramble format to celebrate the holiday spirit and the close-knit community that defines the club.

San Vicente Golf Resort continued a festive weekend of holiday events with its Christmas Couples Tournament, held on Saturday, Dec. 6. The event brought members together for a fun-filled day on the course, fully embracing the Christmas spirit with decked-out carts, festive outfits, and a relaxed, team-focused format. With laughter on every tee box and friendly competition throughout the day, the tournament highlighted exactly what defines San Vicente: community.

This year’s tournament featured a Step Aside Scramble format, designed to keep play lighthearted and inclusive. On each hole, all players teed off, with each golfer required to use three drives throughout the round. From there, teams selected the best shot through the green, but with one twist: the player whose shot was chosen had to step aside and sit out the next shot.

The format encouraged teamwork, strategy, and plenty of laughs, making it perfect for a holiday event where fun came first. “I love this format because it’s so forgiving,” said Corrine Hill. “When something goes wrong, you have teammates to rely on.”

The holiday spirit didn’t stop players from putting up impressive numbers. Angie Rios, Jim Ringnell, and Penny and Rob Fowler captured first place, shooting a 56. A tie for second place followed closely behind at 57, with teams including Sam and Amy Sailor, Chico and Janet Flores, Morton and Angela Cowardin, and Scott and Kiersten Easley.

Beyond the scorecards, the atmosphere made the day special. “The holiday vibe is all about community,” said Chico Flores. “When you go somewhere and know everyone, it’s so welcoming. That’s why we moved out here—to have a close-knit community.” That sense of connection is what continues to set San Vicente apart.

For many players, this tournament stood out from the rest of the year. “I love this tournament—it’s Christmas,” said Penny Fowler. “Everyone is excited about the holidays, and the Hills went above and beyond. I loved the reindeer on the front of their cart.”

Players embraced the festive theme, dressing up, decorating carts, and leaning into the joyful energy that filled the course. “This one is fun because it’s so festive. People don’t dress up like this for other tournaments,” added Corrine Hill. “It’s not serious because of the format, and of course, the drinking. Usually, tournaments are more serious, but this one really feels like a team effort.”

The Christmas Couples Tournament was more than just a competition—it was a celebration of everything that makes San Vicente Golf Resort special. From welcoming members and longtime friendships to laughter on every tee box, the event reflected a community that values connection just as much as the game itself.

Thanks to event leads Cathy Knowles, Kevin McNees, Deanna Owen, and Robert Shepherd for planning an excellent event.

As Christmas approaches, San Vicente continues to deliver experiences that bring people together on and off the course, making it a place where members don’t just play golf—they belong.
