Keeping Our Golf Course in Prime Condition

Scott Walwyn, Golf Course Superintendent • December 1, 2024

As we head into the cooler months, we would like to let you know about a vital project and a new Fix it Forward campaign to help us maintain the beautiful golf course you know and love.

Recently, we discovered an issue with one of our key irrigation pumps that supplies water to the golf course. During the last heatwave, we noticed a drop in water pressure, which was affecting our irrigation system's performance.

After a detailed inspection by Eagle Pump Service, we found that one of the 100-horsepower pumps, which plays a critical role in watering the course, had developed a large rust hole in the column pipe. This damage was preventing the pump from building enough pressure to operate efficiently.

To fix this issue, we will need to replace the damaged pipe and inspect the entire system. This project involves lifting the pump with a crane, inspecting the motor, and replacing components as needed. The repair is essential to ensure our golf course remains lush and well-maintained, especially as we prepare for the upcoming season.

We have carefully reviewed bids from two companies and have chosen Eagle Pump Service to carry out this work. The project cost is approximately $51,000, with repairs expected to take about 30-40 days once approved.

Also, Golf Pro Matt Brumbaugh and I worked with golf club members and launched a FIX IT FORWARD campaign last week. Videos provide simple actions that help preserve the beauty and playability of our golf course.

We appreciate your understanding as we undertake these necessary repairs to keep our golf course in peak condition. Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to providing you with the best golfing experience possible!
