Manager Spotlight: Celebrating Leadership and Mother’s Day with Amy Holsapple-Lueck
Recreation Manager Amy Holsapple-Lueck’s 27-year journey with SDCEA reflects her deep commitment to children, families, and the community she loves.
In honor of Mother’s Day, we’re proud to spotlight Recreation Manager Amy Holsapple-Lueck, whose passion for children, family, and community is a beautiful reminder that nurturing others helps our neighborhood thrive. Amy began as a Camp Counselor with SDCEA, later became Program Coordinator, and now serves as Recreation Manager. She has been part of the SDCEA Recreation Team for 27 years.
A longtime resident and proud mother of two, she shares that the most rewarding part of being a mom is watching her daughters grow up in the same neighborhood where she was raised. “I’ve lived here for 44 years, and seeing my family create the same memories is priceless,” says Holsapple-Lueck. “My girls have also shown me what real love is and that I will always be loved.”
As Recreation Manager, Amy oversees the recreation programs, activities, community events, and aquatic programs in alignment with the department’s goals and objectives. She also directs and coordinates the maintenance of all recreation facilities, including the Ramona Oaks Recreation Center, Ramona Oaks Park, San Vicente Pool, tennis and pickleball courts, two pocket parks, two dog parks, and the Rotunda event site.
Holsapple-Lueck connects with many parents and families in the community by leading a variety of kids’ afterschool programs, camps, and summer programs designed to provide fun, learning, and adventure for children of all ages.
The Recreation Team includes 14-20 employees, and the Aquatics Team has 20 employees. Revenue is generated from afterschool programs, summer camps, and rentals of the Ramona Oaks Park, Rotunda, and the pool for the Ramona swim team.
Many homeowners enjoy the neighborhood gathering spots right down the road — from parks and swimming pools to horseshoes, basketball, and racket sports. Pet parents appreciate the fenced-in areas where dogs can run freely, creating a fun space for pets and people to connect. And lots of homeowners love the SDCEA Community Events like our Easter Egg Hunt, Craft Fairs, Fourth of July Celebration, and Summer Concerts in the park.
LOTS and LOTS of people love the concerts! Here is our 2025 Calendar.
Her favorite part of the job is watching the children grow up in our community. “I picked this line of work because I love children. They make every day different, and I love seeing the world through their eyes,” says Holsapple-Lueck. “Outside of work, I am a mother and wife. My family is everything to me!” says Holsapple-Lueck, who shares her life with her supportive husband, Joey Lueck, who helps her balance work and family.
Being a mom with two wonderful daughters, ages 7 and 8, is the most important job she has. They are always close by, actively participating in the recreation programs and helping her with community events.
This Mother’s Day, we celebrate Amy for the countless memories and moments she creates, keeping the heart of a mom in all she does for the Recreation Team, kids, families, and beyond.
