Head-to-Head Battles End with Knowles on top. The 2025 Presidents Cup delivers thrilling matches, first-time milestones, and a champion’s moment.

The San Vicente Women’s Golf Club kicked off its 2025 Presidents Cup with 16 players contending for the title. Matches were held for four days, from Tuesday, Sept. 9, through Thursday, Sept. 18. The event was coordinated by Penny Fowler, with support from Darla White, Cathy Knowles, and Angela Cowardin.

The format was match play, a head-to-head competition where golfers face off one round at a time. Winners advanced to the next round, while first-time losers dropped into the consolation bracket. Two losses meant elimination from the tournament.

In the consolation bracket, finalists Suzanne Shupe and Elise Ha teed off at 7:30 am while championship contenders Cathy Knowles and Janet Flores followed at 7:40 am. In the consolation match, Ha defeated Shupe to claim the “Beaten 8” title. In her tournament debut, Elise Ha, owner of Master Hair in Ramona, stunned the field by winning the consolation bracket after only one year of playing golf.

In the championship match, Knowles battled Flores for the club’s top honor. After a well-fought contest, Cathy Knowles was crowned the 2025 Presidents Cup champion.

The competition wrapped up with a celebratory luncheon at The Oaks Grille. Darla thanked participants for their dedication despite health and scheduling challenges, adding, “Thank you all for participating. I really appreciate you very much.” When Matt and Sergio arrived to announce the winners, Matt gave a lighthearted tribute to Sergio: “We all know he does all the work, and I just want him to know he’ll be cloned as soon as the technology comes out!” The room erupted in cheers for Sergio before prizes were awarded to winners in each bracket.

It was a day filled with camaraderie, competition, and celebration, another memorable chapter in SVWGC history.
