Sheriff's Senior Volunteer Patrol Welcomes Applicants

The Sheriff's Senior Volunteer Patrol in Ramona is seeking community-minded residents aged 50 and over to join their team and assist with non-emergency law enforcement support and community outreach.

Ramona residents can make a difference in our community by becoming a member of the Senior Volunteer Patrol (SVP), part of the San Diego County Sheriff's Office. The SVP adds another layer to law enforcement by being an additional set of eyes and ears for the Sheriff's office.


SVP performs welfare checks for residents, phone calls to our YANA (You Are Never Alone) participants, vacation checks, school visits, traffic control involving accidents or emergencies, and civic functions requiring traffic control. They also patrol our parks and civic areas.


To qualify, you must be at least 50 years old and possess a valid California Driver's License, auto insurance, and medical insurance. You must have good moral character. You should be physically and emotionally able to perform the duties of the position. Applicants must pass a background check 45 days prior to the next academy (June 2025) and agree to abide by all Sheriff's Office rules and policies.
