Teamwork and Great Golf Define the Couples Club Championship
Strong teamwork, standout performances, and memorable moments highlighted this year's San Vicente Resort Couples Club Championship, where champions were crowned across multiple flights after two days of competition.
Success in the couples golf tournament takes more than great shots. It takes trust, teamwork, and knowing when to lean on your partner. Those qualities were on full display at this year's San Vicente Resort Couples Club Championship.
The tournament featured two different formats over the weekend. Saturday's round was played with 1 Better Ball on the odd numbered holes and 2 Balls on the even numbered holes. Sunday's format was reversed, with 2 Balls on the odd numbered holes and 1 Better Ball on the even numbered holes.
For Jim and Corinne Hill, success came from knowing each other's game.
"We know each other's games pretty well," Jim Hill said. "We usually don't have bad holes at the same time, so we're able to 'ham and egg' it. It doesn't always work out that way, but we complement each other really well."
That chemistry earned the Hills the Overall Low Net title and the honor of hosting next year's Couples Club Championship. They also made their mark in the side games, with Corinne winning Closest to the Pin in Round 1 and the women's Longest Putt on Hole 18, while Jim claimed Closest to the Pin in Round 2.
The A Flight Low Gross championship ended in a tie between Chico and Janet Flores and Joe Weir and Paige Megna.
When asked to describe his partner in one word, Chico Flores laughed before answering, "Bipolar," joking that "when she's high, she's high, and when she's low, she's low; but I love her, and I can't think of a better playing partner."
For Joe Weir, the defining moment came on the fourth hole.
"Paige's eagle on No. 4," he said. "We'll call it two great drives and a putt."
That eagle helped propel Weir and Megna into a share of the Low Gross title.
The A Flight Low Net championship belonged to Darla and AJ White, while McNees and Knowles captured the B Flight Low Net title.
Side game winners included Rob Fowler, Joe Weir, Jim Hill, Gerry Schwipper, Corinne Hill, Robyn Bolitho, Darla White, and Kiersten Easley in the Closest to the Pin contests. Steve Frank swept the men's Longest Putt competitions on Holes 9 and 18. While Corinne Hill added another highlight by winning the women's Longest Putt on Hole 18 and Kiersten Easley captured the women's honor on Hole 9.
From Paige Megna's eagle on No. 4 to the Hills' all-around performance and Steve Frank's hot putter, this year's Couples Club Championship showcased the teamwork, competition, and camaraderie that continue to make it one of San Vicente Resort's favorite traditions.
