Easter Traditions Come to Life in SDCE

Children at the San Diego Country Estates recreation center shared how Easter traditions like egg hunts, family time, and sweet treats bring their community together and create lasting memories.

Easter traditions come in many forms: colorful egg hunts, family meals, church services, and baskets filled with sweet surprises. For many families, it’s a time to gather, celebrate, and create lasting memories passed down through generations.

At the San Diego Country Estates Recreation Department, those traditions were on full display as kids in the after-school program enjoyed an afternoon of springtime fun. To capture the spirit of the holiday, nine children from the community shared what Easter means to them and the traditions they look forward to most.

Eight-year-old Rylee didn’t hesitate to name her favorite tradition: “Finding all of the eggs and doing an Easter egg hunt.”

Twin brothers Miles and Jack, age 6, enjoy the family aspect of the holiday. “We have the same birthday,” Miles said. He added that he loves hunting for eggs, especially because they contain candy and cool toys. Jack agreed, saying he enjoys celebrating and eating with his family, along with participating in egg hunts both at home and at school.

Wyatt, 10, said Easter is special because it brings his family together. “We all live far apart,” he explained. He especially enjoys the food, family time, and egg hunts.

Emma, 9, loves the Easter Bunny and participates in egg hunts both in her backyard and at Ramona Oaks Park. “I love getting all the candy,” she said, adding that her family celebrates with plenty of eggs each year.

Dax, 8, said his favorite part is the chocolate. “It’s just so yummy,” he said. He also enjoys bunny-shaped candy and takes part in egg hunts at home and at his grandparents’ house, with the first hunt always happening at home.

Reed, 7, appreciates the time spent with family. “We color all of the eggs, hide them, and hunt them,” he said. While they usually hold their egg hunt at a park, they sometimes move it indoors if the weather doesn’t cooperate.

Skylar, 6, noted that Easter falls on a different day each year. Her family colors eggs and participates in a hunt at a friend’s house, with candy being her favorite part.

Ella, 8, enjoys finding eggs and taking photos with the Easter Bunny at Ramona Oaks Park. “We do it every year, and my mom works here,” she said. Her family also holds a hunt at home, where the Easter Bunny hides eggs overnight for them to find in the morning. She is also looking forward to spring break and an upcoming cruise.

While each child described different traditions, a common theme emerged: Easter is about more than just treats—it’s about spending time with family, sharing laughter, and creating lifelong memories.

Amy Holsapple, Recreation Manager at the San Diego Country Estates Association, said she enjoys watching the egg hunt, especially seeing older siblings help younger children. She also loves seeing families take photos with the Easter Bunny at Ramona Oaks Park.

Events like this help strengthen community connections. Families can be seen celebrating together and creating a space where kids can enjoy traditions and make new memories together.

As the day continued, laughter and excitement filled the air, a reminder that Easter traditions, big or small, are what make the holiday truly special.
