Final FORUS Golf Tournament Raises Funds for Local Schools, Looks Ahead to New Chapter
The final FORUS Golf Tournament brought together 67 golfers, 16 sponsors and community supporters to raise funds for Ramona Unified schools, concluding an 11-year tradition that raised approximately $60,000 while paving the way for a new charitable event, Chip In for Charity.
The Friends of Ramona Unified Schools (FORUS) hosted its final annual golf tournament this month, bringing together local businesses, sponsors, volunteers and golfers in support of Ramona Unified School District students.
According to tournament organizer Shelly Heimer, the event welcomed 67 golfers across 17 teams and received support from 16 sponsors. The tournament is projected to raise approximately $7,500, with proceeds benefiting deferred maintenance projects throughout the Ramona Unified School District.
The FORUS Golf Tournament has served as the organization’s primary fundraiser for the past 11 years. According to information provided by Shelly Heimer, the tournament has raised an estimated $60,000 during that time, with funds supporting maintenance and improvement projects across district campuses.
Participant Scott Middleton said supporting the event was an easy decision.
“It’s for a good cause and it’s a fun event. I’ve got kids in school still and I know it helps them,” Middleton said.
Over the years, the tournament has brought together community members, local businesses and supporters who share a commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for Ramona students. Through sponsorships, donations and participation, the event has helped fund projects that directly impact local schools.
Heimer recognized the many individuals and organizations that contributed to the success of this year’s tournament. Special recognition was given to Basile, the tournament’s Platinum Sponsor, which contributed $2,100, and OCS, the Titanium Sponsor, which contributed $1,600.
Competition on the course featured strong team performances. Team Basile earned first-place honors, followed by Team Alluval in second and Team OCS in third. Individual contest winners included Stacey Leiber, who captured Longest Drive, and Chad Colden, who won Closest to the Pin.
As the final FORUS Golf Tournament concludes its 11-year run, organizers expressed gratitude to the sponsors, golfers, volunteers, donors and community partners who helped make the event a success year after year.
Beginning next year, the tournament will continue under a new name, Chip In for Charity. According to Heimer, the new format will support a different local nonprofit organization each year, expanding the event’s impact and creating opportunities to benefit a variety of charitable causes throughout the Ramona community.
