Finding Home in the Heart of the Estates: April Home of the Month
April’s Home of the Month honors Richard and Geraldine Bowman, whose warm and welcoming residence reflects both thoughtful design and a deep appreciation for community.
Married for eight years, Richard and Geraldine Bowman purchased their home in San Diego Country Estates three years ago, after relocating from El Cajon, a decision they say was life changing.
“It was the best move we could have made,” Geraldine shares. “It’s a great community.”
Their 1,900-square-foot home features two bedrooms and three bathrooms, with a charming gray-and-white exterior, accented by a bold red front door. The house had been fully remodeled prior to their move-in, allowing the couple to settle in comfortably and focus on making the space their own.
One of their biggest projects together was transforming the landscaping. They installed artificial turf, native plants, and an efficient irrigation system-an upgrade that not only enhanced curb appeal but also reduced their monthly water bill by about $100. Geraldine describes it as “the biggest job in our marriage,” but one well worth the effort.
A member of the Ramona Garden Club, Geraldine enjoys staying connected to the local gardening community and looks forward to the club’s annual Garden Tour, its largest fundraiser of the year.
Inside, the home lives up to its inviting exterior. Geraldine describes the atmosphere as cozy, with seasonal décor adding a personal touch throughout the year. Having just packed away her Easter decorations, she’s already planning a red, white, and blue theme for Memorial Day.
Her favorite room is the family room, where she and Richard spend most of their time together. She also finds joy in the kitchen, where she indulges her love of baking.
Beyond the home itself, it’s the sense of community that truly sets San Diego Country Estates apart for the Bowmans. “The people here are very kind and sweet,” Geraldine says. During recent health challenges, neighbors stepped in with extraordinary kindness putting up their Christmas lights, checking in regularly, and even bringing meals while she recovered from a hospital stay.
“It’s just wonderful here,” she says. “It’s nice, small-town country living. I couldn’t have picked a better community.”
The Bowmans also found connection in an unexpected way. The home’s previous owners, who had lived there for 30 years, invited them to attend Mountain Valley Church. Today, the Bowmans still attend and have formed lasting friendships.
“It’s a win-win all around,” Geraldine says. “New home, new church, and a new church family and friends.”
For Richard and Geraldine Bowman, home is more than just a place, it’s a community, a lifestyle, and a true sense of belonging.
