Megna Makes History with Rare Par-4 Hole-in-One at San Vicente
Paige Megna made history at San Vicente Golf Resort by recording a rare hole-in-one on a blind par 4 during the Toy Story Tournament, capping a memorable day filled with celebration, personal milestones, and club history.
Par-4 hole-in-ones are among the rarest feats in golf, and on a memorable day at San Vicente Golf Resort, Paige Megna added her name to that exclusive list.
Megna recorded a hole-in-one on a blind par 4 during the Toy Story Tournament, playing the hole from the green tees at approximately 240 yards to the middle of the green. The hole is a dogleg left that plays uphill and then downhill, with the tee shot played from the bottom of a hill and the green tucked out of view.
“I usually hit it anywhere from 180 to 240 yards depending on slope, wind, and conditions,” Megna said. Staying true to her normal strategy, she hit driver and aimed along her usual line, which is over the right side of the hill.
The shot was a powerful line drive with just enough apex to clear the hill. While Megna couldn’t see the result from the tee, golfers on the green had a front-row seat. With the pin tucked behind the left bunker, witnesses said the ball followed an S-shaped path—rolling down the right side of the fairway, kicking left, tracking along the bunker, hopping over a sprinkler head, and disappearing into the cup.
When the group went to find their shots, the golfers on the green began waving them over. Scott Easley, one of Megna’s playing partners, had also hit a great shot and initially went ahead to apologize for hitting into them. Instead, he was met with handshakes and surprising news that someone had made a hole-in-one.
Easley returned to the group to celebrate, believing the ace was his. Moments later, the group discovered a ball sitting roughly 15 yards short of the green, which was Easley’s. A second check of the hole confirmed the truth—that the ball in the cup belonged to Paige Megna.
“It was the last drive of the day and the last hole,” Megna said. “I never thought it had a chance.”
The celebration quickly followed. During post-round announcements and prize presentations, Megna’s par-4 hole-in-one was announced to the crowd, drawing cheers and applause. In golf tradition, the player who makes a hole-in-one is typically responsible for buying drinks for the clubhouse, a cost that can quickly add up and is why San Vicente Golf Resort offers a hole-in-one insurance policy. However, because the Toy Story Tournament was not a Ladies Club event, the policy did not apply. Instead, fellow golfers bought Megna drinks to celebrate the rare achievement, and she shared the champagne and cake she had brought for her boyfriend Joe Weir’s birthday, turning the moment into a full clubhouse celebration.
Megna joined San Vicente Golf Resort three years ago after previously playing mostly in scramble events and only occasionally otherwise. While she recorded a hole-in-one roughly five to six years ago on a 95-yard par 3 at The Lights at Indio, this marked her first ace at San Vicente—let alone her first on a par 4.
“I never could have imagined doing something like this,” Megna said.
Freddy, one of the professionals in the San Vicente pro shop, confirmed the rarity of the moment, noting that it was the first par-4 hole-in-one he had ever heard of at the resort.
In a fitting follow-up, just two weeks later, Joe Weir recorded a hole-in-one of his own on hole No. 2, making the moment even more unforgettable for the couple.
For Megna, the experience hasn’t changed her approach to the hole.
“I usually play that line,” she said. “And I’ll definitely keep playing it.”
