Easement Maintenance: Protecting Our Community with Fire Abatement

Proper easement maintenance ensures safety, accessibility, and fire prevention, and the Community Relations Department (CRD) is here to guide homeowners through the process.

As a new year begins, cooler weather and much-anticipated rain signal the perfect time to tackle essential yard work. This season is ideal for trimming trees and plants without risking heat damage, and homeowners across the community are busy maintaining their easements. To support these efforts, the Community Relations Department (CRD) is highlighting areas that may require attention.


Each homeowner is responsible for maintaining any easement located on their property. While not all properties include an easement, the CRD is your go-to resource for accurate information. For additional guidance, the Horse Trail Map on our website can be a helpful starting point, though it may not always have the latest updates specific to your lot.


Proper easement maintenance involves regularly trimming plants, shrubs, and trees to ensure safe and unobstructed access. Guidelines include:

•            Keeping grass and plants at a height of 4 inches or less.

•            Trimming trees to maintain a clearance of 13 feet 6 inches from the ground.

•            Removing any dead vegetation to reduce fire hazards.
